Soul Care Day

Saturday, November 2, 2024 // 9:00am to 3:00 pm

A day of retreat focusing on the practices of silence and solitude, and reading scripture transformationally.

  • The morning session of this “Learn, Do, Share” half day retreat, is led by Terry Andres, exploring “How to read the Bible for relationship with God rather than just reading for information about God.” We will have time to read and reflect using the practice, then share our experiences as a group.
  • The afternoon session, led by Krisi Sonneland, will explore the importance and practice of silence and solitude in the rhythm of our spiritual life. We will practice silence and solitude with space to spread out on Whitworth’s beautiful campus. There will be a time for continuing the “Learn, Do, Share” pattern if participants desire some small group interaction after their time alone. The time of solitude is for communion with God. The group experience is optional.

Lunch from Christ’s Kitchen will be provided between the morning and afternoon sessions.

Cost: Free

Location: Whitworth University Seeley G. Mudd Chapel, College, Spokane, WA 99218

The Formational Way to Read:

The morning session is led by Terry Andres. Come explore how to read scripture for formation rather than just for information.  Formational reading is reading for relationship with God and it’s a vital move in learning to practice Lectio Divina.  We will identify the process, practice the steps and discuss our varied experiences.  The Holy Spirit knows how to ease us into this life-giving skill.  Join us as we learn together.

The Practice of Silence and Solitude:

The afternoon session, led by Krisi Sonneland, will explore the importance and practice of silence and solitude in the rhythm of our spiritual life. We will practice silence and solitude with space to spread out on Whitworth’s beautiful campus. There will be a time for continuing the “Learn, Do, Share” pattern if participants desire some small group interaction after their time alone. The time of solitude is for communion with God. The group experience is optional.
